Welcome to the updated Greening Phoenix Road site

We are pleased to share a refreshed and updated website ready for the new year and upcoming consultations about trials in Phoenix Road and adjoining streets in 2023.

Following co-design activities and development of an Emerging Plan during 2021, this site was quiet throughout 2022. During this time, Transport planners and Highways Engineers in the project team have been working to develop proposals for traffic changes that will be part of a 12 month trial period in 2023.

Trial of traffic changes

The trial will enable us to test how the changes may impact on people who live, work and study in Somers Town. Community feedback and lessons learned during the trial period will be incorporated into the master plan for greening Phoenix Road and pave the way for permanent changes to traffic.

These traffic changes will enable parts of the road to be converted from carriageway to create green spaces and to begin to transform Phoenix Road into a green link between Euston and St Pancras stations.

Postcards and notices are circulating with details of the proposed changes and how to have your say.

Click here to find information about the proposals and an online survey.

Want to talk to us in person? We'll be at the Sharing space:

Doreen Bazell Hall, 1 Goldington Street, NW1 1UG (on the corner of Goldington Street and Chenies Place).

Pop in any time between 12pm - 3pm on Thursday 16 March or Thursday 23 March.

Somers Town parklets

Two parklets were created and installed in July 2022.

The parklets are part of an 18 month trial to test the impacts of converting parking spaces to green spaces. We worked with local groups to install planters and inject greening and colour into the streetscape. With partners, we built in an added experiment to see what happens when seating is placed in the street and to explore ways that this may be achieved in the wider plans for greening Phoenix Road.

We look forward to sharing proposals and to hearing your feedback.

Thank you

Finally, thank you to everyone who has shared their local knowledge and given feedback to date. There is a wealth of information from your contributions which have, and will continue, to shape the project as it unfolds. These can be found in the Reports and Resources tile.

Please sign up for project updates and continue to share your views and suggestions over the coming year.

We look forward to working with you to green Phoenix Road.
