News on Phoenix Road

Welcome to the Greening Phoenix Road project

We’re getting real with Greening Phoenix Road and we want you to be a part of it! Greening Phoenix Road will create new green space in Somers Town and a greener link between Euston and St Pancras Stations.

Through an open and collaborative design process, Phoenix Road, Brill Place and adjoining streets will be greener, healthier, safer, and enlivened. A place that puts people first, celebrates local history, culture and built heritage and captures the unique spirit and identity of Somers Town and its community.

There are some exciting opportunities to create and trial ideas as we develop a concept plan for Phoenix Road. Whether you are a resident, business owner, commuter or student, if you use Phoenix Road we would like to hear from you.

Project Progress

It goes without saying but the past year has been a trying one for our communities. It has been important to keep beneficial community-based initiatives going where possible. Whilst we have experienced slight delays, we have pushed forward to get real with the Greening of Phoenix Road and to ensure this project continues to happen.

This current phase builds on the previous engagement and studies undertaken since 2018. Since December 2020 we have been collecting ideas through a combination of co-design workshops and online engagement and putting them into the mix of possible things that could happen on Phoenix Road.

What happens next?

We will look at all of these contributions and draw out the main ideas and similarities between ideas. Then we can start making a list of possible designs and activities to trial over the summer and/or feed into the developing concept plan for Phoenix Road.

We want to bring all the stakeholders together to help evaluate and prioritise ideas to test out and take forward. If you have signed up to the project updates you will be invited to this alongside lots of other local organisations.

After this we will identify pilots or tests from the prioritised list. We will look to the community to help us design, build or contribute to making real. Using these tests, we will gather feedback from the local people.

We will bring the stakeholders together again to help prioritise ideas to take forward based on the feedback we have received from the tests.

We will then exhibit the final ideas, along with your feedback and we will set out the next steps.

The findings from this will also be reflected in the longer-term plans for Phoenix Road, which are being developed alongside the process outlined above.
